Flynas expands Airbus order with additional A330neos and A321neos

Saudi low-cost carrier flynas is expanding its narrow- and wide-body fleet with an order for five additional Airbus A330-900 aircraft and 20 additional A321neos. 

The order, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, pushes flynas’ total order book for A330neos to 20 aircraft, and the commitment for the A321neo to 56 aircraft. 

Additional aircraft to support network expansion and flynas Syria launch

Riyadh-based flynas currently operates a fleet of 67 Airbus aircraft, comprising two A330-300s, four A320ceos and 61 A320neos. 

With its order for new Airbus aircraft, the airline plans to expand its network in response to growing demand for air travel in Saudi Arabia.

Bander Almohanna, chief executive officer and managing director of flynas, described the enlarged order as “sustainable growth” of the carrier’s fleet, to support the “continued expansion of our six operating bases across the Kingdom, while also strengthening our operational and expansion capabilities for flynas Syria”.

The latter refers to a multibillion-dollar investment agreement between Syria and Saudi Arabia under which the countries will establish a new low-cost airline.  

Through a joint venture, flynas is setting up a new subsidiary, known as flynas Syria, to improve air connections to the country, which has been seeking more international flights since the fall of the Assad regime in 2024.

The new carrier will be 51% owned by the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Air Transport and 49% by flynas. 

Operational activities are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Saudi demand and regional growth drive fleet expansion

The latest purchase deal with Airbus puts flynas’ confirmed orders with the OEM at 235 aircraft. 

Flynas used the Farnborough International Airshow 2024 to sign the original deal with Airbus for 75 A320neo family aircraft and 15 A330-900.

A321neo and A330neo support future expansion

The A321neo, the largest variant of Airbus’ A320neo family, is designed to combine increased capacity with improved fuel efficiency and range. The aircraft enables airlines to operate regional and medium-haul routes more economically, delivering at least a 20% reduction in fuel consumption.

The A330-900, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, is Airbus’ latest-generation widebody aircraft, with a range of up to 8,100nm (15,000km). It also promises to reduce fuel burn, carbon dioxide emissions and operating costs by around 25% compared with earlier-generation aircraft.

The new A330-900 aircraft for flynas are expected to come in a two-class configuration, accommodating up to 400 passengers.
