Blue Abyss has taken a step forward in advancing commercial space initiatives by signing a Space Act Agreement with NASA’s Glenn Research Center.

The collaboration aims to pave the way for advancements in astronaut training, human spaceflight, and the simulation of extreme environments.

Through the partnership, Blue Abyss and NASA will jointly work to develop innovative solutions that address the challenges associated with space exploration, including operations in low Earth orbit, cis-lunar space, and lunar and Martian environments.

NASA will contribute its expertise in space exploration, providing technical guidance to shape the development of Blue Abyss’s facilities and capabilities.

As part of the initial phase, Blue Abyss will conduct an in-depth market analysis to outline the infrastructure required over the next decade. This study will identify key milestones and be shared with NASA, offering insights into potential commercial services that could support the agency’s objectives.

This collaboration is structured as a non-reimbursable Space Act Agreement, emphasising NASA’s dedication to fostering partnerships that promote innovation, expand commercial opportunities, and drive progress in scientific and technological exploration.

John Vickers, CEO, Blue Abyss, said: “This Space Act Agreement with NASA’s Glenn Research Center represents a pivotal milestone for Blue Abyss.

“As we develop next-generation infrastructure, including our proposed facilities in the US and UK, it helps position the UK as a significant player in the space sector, supporting industry growth, consultancy, training, and infrastructure development that will attract international clients and foster innovation within the UK space industry.”

Ross Hulbert, head of engagement at Spaceport Cornwall, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Blue Abyss to our Space Systems Operations Facility at Spaceport Cornwall. It’s fantastic to have such an innovative team join us, especially at this exciting time.

“We’d like to extend our huge congratulations to everyone at Blue Abyss on their new partnership with NASA’s Glenn Research Center. This collaboration not only showcases their incredible capabilities but also solidifies the UK’s role in advanced space and subsea training.”
