Danish government acquires controlling stake in Copenhagen Airport
The Danish government has announced plans to acquire a controlling stake in Kobenhavns Lufthavne, the operator of Copenhagen Airport.
SAS, Scandinavia’s leading airline, welcomed the acquisition, emphasising the alignment of strategic interests between the state and the airport’s development.
The airline highlighted the need for substantial investments in infrastructure to support its ongoing expansion at Copenhagen, including a multi-billion-kroner commitment to bolster the airport’s capacity and facilities.
Copenhagen Airport’s enhanced role as an international hub is expected to drive economic growth, create jobs, and solidify Denmark’s position as an important part of the European airport network.
Commenting on the decision, SAS President & CEO Anko van der Werff, said: “This is a crucial step for Danish and Scandinavian connectivity. Strengthening Copenhagen Airport as a global hub requires close collaboration between all stakeholders, and we warmly welcome the Danish State’s decision as it will facilitate the necessary alignment for stronger Scandinavian connectivity.”
