Newly-renamed Stellar Aircraft moves stateside
January 8, 2025
Sirius Aviation – the company behind the hydrogen-powered business jet concept – is to unveil its flying demonstrator in June 2025 from its new headquarters in the United States; a move complemented by a change of name to Stellar Aircraft.
The Swiss startup had previously unveiled its Sirius Jet concept – something it described as the world’s first hydrogen-powered vertical take-off and landing aircraft – at the start of last year. Designed in collaboration with BMW’s Designworks and Sauber Group, the aircraft features a hydrogen-electric propulsion system and will be available in either three- or five-passenger variants. “Our ultimate goal is to unveil the flying demonstrator of the Stellar Jet in June 2025, showcasing its revolutionary technology and redefining the future of sustainable aviation,” explained Stellar Aircraft CEO Alexy Popov.
The company explains that manufacturing of the Stellar Jet now officially underway (although no further details have been provided as to exactly which elements this comprises). However, in February 2025, Stellar Aircraft will reveal the results of performance validation tests for its proprietary hydrogen fuel tank; something it says “exceeds industry benchmarks in energy density, safety, and efficiency”.
Although the company’s Swiss office will “remain a key hub for global operations and collaboration,” Popov added that the move “opens numerous opportunities for Stellar Aircraft, as the United States remains our key market”. He concluded that the new name “reflects greater potential for the company, offering flexibility and alignment with our vision for innovation and leadership in the aviation industry”.
