Lufthansa Innovation Hub (LIH) and SAP.iO have joined forces to launch the first Aviation Blockchain Challenge.
The partners say they want to attract the world’s most talented blockchain entrepreneurs to create new solutions to aviation’s challenges.
They are offering the winners support from Lufthansa’s industry experts and “innovation ecosystem”, as well as access to SAP’s blockchain assets and mentorship.
There are three categories: Airline Challenge – to use blockchain to make airline operations flawless and more accurate; Traveller Challenge – to make travellers’ experience more efficient and convenient; and Supplier Challenge – to make supply chain and maintenance more transparent and connected.
Submissions are open until 31 August, and selected applicants will then be mentored towards a final pitch to senior managers at Lufthansa Group and SAP.
Game-changing technology
Thorsten Dirks, CEO, Eurowings & board member at Lufthansa Group, said: “Blockchain is one of the game-changing technologies of our time, which we are systematically addressing as part of our digital strategy for the Lufthansa Group. We look forward to discussing innovative solutions and initiating experiments together with our partner SAP at the Aviation Blockchain Challenge.
“By combining our aviation industry expertise with the blockchain technology of a world market leader, we are creating the ideal worldwide framework for addressing blockchain entrepreneurs with an affinity for travel and mobility”
