Lufthansa City Airlines has received its first newly built Airbus A320neo, delivered from Airbus’ facility in Hamburg.

The aircraft, registered D-AIJP, carries the name “Ingelheim am Rhein”.

This addition comes as the carrier expands its role in operating short-haul flights from Munich and, starting in 2026, from Frankfurt.

“Our new aircraft is a further motivation and incentive for the commitment and excellent work of all our employees, who contribute to the success and growth of our airline every day,” said Peter Albers, Managing Director of Lufthansa City Airlines, during the aircraft handover.

The A320neo is configured with 180 seats and features the latest Airspace cabin, which brings enhancements like larger overhead compartments, upgraded lighting, and improved seating comfort.

Beginning in May, the aircraft will enter service, joining a fleet that now includes eight aircraft: four A319s and four A320neos.

The airline plans to increase this number to 15 by the end of 2025, with the arrival of seven more A320neos.

Looking ahead, Lufthansa City Airlines is set to begin taking delivery of 40 Airbus A220-300s starting in late 2026.

The carrier’s network is also expanding, with seven new destinations bringing the total number of routes served to 17. An additional operational base in Frankfurt is scheduled to launch in 2026.
