Joby Aviation has started construction on Dubai’s first vertiport at Dubai International Airport (DXB), part of its air taxi network planned for launch as early as late 2025.

The facility is being built in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Skyports, with a recent groundbreaking attended by top Dubai officials and Joby’s CEO.

As part of a six-year exclusive agreement, Joby’s electric air taxis will connect DXB with three other hubs, including Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina, aiming to integrate seamlessly into Dubai’s public transit system.

The three-story, 3,100-square-meter vertiport will feature two take-off and landing spots, along with Joby’s proprietary charging systems to enable rapid recharging between flights.

Designed to support high-speed, low-noise electric flights, Joby’s air taxis will carry a pilot and four passengers at up to 200 mph with zero emissions, positioning Dubai as a leader in sustainable, urban air mobility.

Joby has also initiated certification steps with the UAE’s aviation authority, moving closer to becoming the country’s first commercial air taxi operator.

“Our air taxi service in Dubai will offer tourists and residents the opportunity to experience a revolutionary travel experience, with faster movement between key destinations and breathtaking views of the city skyline,” commented JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby.

“With the start of construction on our air taxi network, our shared vision for electric air taxi service in Dubai is coming to life. I’m grateful to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and to the government of Dubai for their support and commitment to innovation.”
