Gatwick reports strong performance for 2024

March 20, 2025

London Gatwick has published its financial results for 2024, reporting a total of 43.2 million passengers, a 5.7% increase from the previous year.
The growth was fueled by a significant expansion in airlines and destinations, with 57 airlines serving the airport, marking a new record.
Revenue for the year reached £1.13bn, up 11.3%, driven by increases in airline networks and passenger numbers. This includes aeronautical income of £599.4 million (up 9.8%), retail income of £241.3 million (up 16.2%), and car parking income of £147.8 million (up 11.3%). Profit for the period was £342.9 million, up 8.9%.
With the announcement that the Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander, is “minded to approve” its Northern Runway plans, Gatwick is fully engaged in the extended process towards a final decision on the £2.2 billion, privately financed project.
Construction is already underway on a £140 million extension to Pier 6, which, upon completion in 2027, will add eight new aircraft gates to serve more than 500,000 passengers who currently board via buses. Additionally, a £60 million investment is being made in new technology for security lanes.
In 2024, Gatwick served 53 long-haul routes, including new connections to Singapore, Beijing, Guangzhou, Baku, Ashgabat, and Tashkent.
In total, the airport offered services to 19 destinations across Asia, including China, India, and the Middle East, 13 in North and South America, 16 in Central America and the Caribbean, and five in Africa. Additionally, 20 new retail outlets opened at the airport in 2024.
Stewart Wingate, Chief Executive, London Gatwick, said: “Thanks to the dedication of teams across the airport and investment in new facilities and services, our passengers received outstanding service throughout the year.
“We also offered a record-breaking choice of airlines and destinations, and this has driven our strong financial performance in 2024.
“Today’s results come off the back of the announcement that the Government is minded to approve our privately financed Northern Runway plans.
“We stand ready to deliver these plans and will continue to engage fully in the extended process towards a final decision and the realisation of 14,000 new jobs and a £1bn injection into the economy each year.”
