Emirates is launching a new four-weekly service to Madagascar via the Seychelles in September.
The flights will launch on 3 September on a Boeing 777-300ER, operating between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Ivato International Airport (TNR) in the Madagascan capital of Antananarivo.
EK707 will depart from Dubai to the Seychelles at 8.55am local time, arriving in Mahe in the Seychelles at 1.35pm, and will continue on to Antananarivo to land at 4.50pm.
The overnight return flight EK708 departs Antananarivo at 6.35pm, landing in Mahe at 10.20pm. The flight then takes off from Mahe at 11.50pm to Dubai, landing at 4.20am the next day.
Flight times have been scheduled to optimise connections to and from key points in Europe, the Far East, West Asia, the Middle East and Gulf Cooperation Council countries as part of Emirates’ global network of more than 140 destinations.
Operating on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, travellers can combine a stopover in the Seychelles when flying to or from Madagascar.
Emirates is also in discussion with Air Madagascar to offer further global connectivity.
Emirates deputy president and chief commercial officer Adnan Kazim said: “Madagascar has historically been underserved, despite growing appetite from travellers for authentic ecotourism experiences.”
Madagascar’s minister of transports and meteorology Manambahoaka Valéry Ramonjavelo added: “Our agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Madagascar opens the way to this new Antananarivo-Dubai route and represents a significant step forward for the development of tourism and trade between the two countries.
“This is extremely positive news in more than one way, as it opens a new door between Madagascar and the world, through the Dubai hub, the biggest international hub in passenger numbers.”
The new route announcement comes as Emirates becomes the first international airline to join aireg, the Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany.
The airline pledged its membership earlier at ILA Berlin 2024 in an official signing ceremony, as part of Emirates’ commitment towards improving the sustainability of its operations and to the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The pledge will see the airline contribute to efforts to ramp up locally produced SAF in Germany, complementing several other SAF-related initiatives Emirates has launched in the past few months.
