Dornier Seawings has conducted the first water tests of its prototype DS-2C aircraft, also marking the inaugural flight of the first unit to be manufactured entirely at the company’s Yixing, China facility.

A joint venture between the established German aircraft OEM and two fully state-owned Chinese enterprises, Dornier Seawings is headquartered in Jiangsu Province, China.

Described by Dornier Seawings as the “world’s most advanced amphibious aircraft,” the two-seat, fixed-wing aircraft is powered by the Rotax 912is engine and able to cruise at about 185 km/hr with a typical 250kg payload.

The company’s other product in development, the Seastar, also made its first flight from Germany’s Oberpfaffenhofen airport last month, with the aircraft continuing to accumulate additional flight hours as it works towards EASA CS-23 certification.
