Bombardier Business Aircraft has unveiled two additions to its business jet fleet: the Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft, with ranges of 5,700 and 6,600 nautical miles respectively, and top speeds of Mach 0.90.
The Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft will join Bombardier’s Global 5000, Global 6000 and Global 7000 aircraft. The new aircraft build on the Global 5000 and Global 6000 by offering 500 and 600 nautical miles of additional range respectively, coupled with up to 13% fuel burn advantage, Bombardier says.
The new aircraft also deliver a range increase of up to 1,300 nautical miles when operating out of hot-weather and high-altitude conditions, due to increased thrust and improved fuel efficiency. Bombardier notes that the Global 5500 and Global 6500 also boast superior agility and have the ability to access airports that others can’t, such as London City.
New features
The planes are fitted with purpose-built Rolls-Royce Pearl engines and a new wing.
The Global 5500 aircraft can connect Sao Paolo and Paris, and Moscow and Los Angeles. The Global 6500 aircraft can connect Hong Kong or Singapore and London, and Toluca and Madrid.
Bombardier also revealed that the Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft will offer the patented Nuage seat, which it says is “the first new seating architecture in business aviation in more than 30 years”.
The Nuage chaise offers a lounge chair that converts into a flat surface for sleeping or banquet-style dining around the table.
In addition, the Bombardier Vision flight deck on the new aircraft introduces what Bombardier says is the first true combined vision system (CVS) in business aviation – the only system to seamlessly merge enhanced and synthetic images in a single view.
Coming next year
The new business jets are expected to enter service at the end of 2019.
David Coleal, President, Bombardier Business Aircraft, said: “Bombardier’s two newest Global aircraft are the result of our unrelenting commitment to innovation, excellence and most of all, our desire to deliver unmatched capabilities to our customers.
“This next generation of performance stems from the winning DNA of our Global family of aircraft, now further enhanced through a newly optimised wing, a fully re-imagined cabin and new, purpose-built engines.”
