Romanian airline Dan Air is to become the first European Union-based carrier to launch passenger services to Syria following the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad from power.

The Bucharest-based airline will introduce scheduled flights to Damascus from four European cities next month.

Dan Air will operate six weekly flights between Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport and Damascus International Airport starting 15 June, using Airbus A320 aircraft.

Three additional routes—from Stockholm Arlanda, Frankfurt, and Berlin Brandenburg—are also scheduled to begin on 15, 16, and 17 June, with each route offering two flights per week.

These new services will put Dan Air alongside Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, and Turkish Airlines as the only international carriers currently operating flights to Syria, a country that has been largely isolated from European air traffic for over a decade due to conflict and sanctions.
