The NATO AWACS detachment will operate with three E-3A aircraft in the coming weeks, executing Enhanced Vigilance Activities and monitoring the Baltic Sea region – strengthening NATO’s presence on the eastern flank. The aircraft are drawn from a fleet of 14 NATO-owned E-3A surveillance aircraft based in Geilenkirchen, Germany and their deployment will ensure continuity of operations and demonstrate readiness.

The deployment will support NATO’s Agile Combat Employment (ACE) concept, improving resilience and operational flexibility across dispersed locations. Training from Lithuania enables NATO AWACS to react swiftly to evolving scenarios and reinforces co-operation with the host nation’s air base.

Šiauliai Air Base plays a key role in supporting Allied forces and hosting rotational capabilities. Its infrastructure boosts NATO’s air power, interoperability, and deterrence in response to the evolving geopolitical environment.
