IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has promised to “unfold a new chapter in Indian aviation” ahead of a widely expected announcement of the commencement of flights to Europe.

In a post on X on Saturday, the low cost carrier said “Stay tuned as we prepare to unfold a new chapter in Indian aviation. #goIndiGo“, along with a photo of their newly leased 787-9 from Norse.

The airline has applied for slots at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport for daily flights from Mumbai and Delhi, aiming to commence operations in the summer of 2025.

Additionally, IndiGo is targeting other major European destinations, including London and Paris, as part of its growth.

To facilitate this expansion, IndiGo has placed an order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with deliveries expected to begin in 2027.

In the interim, the airline plans to lease Boeing 787 aircraft to launch its long-haul services ahead of schedule, capitalising on the high demand anticipated during the 2025 summer travel season. It has already taken one of the type from European carrier Norse Atlantic Airways.
