COCESNA and Thales have signed two contracts to modernise the AHMS (aeronautical message handling system), AIM (aeronautical information management system and NAVAIDS (navigation aids) infrastructure across six Central American countries, with integration of virtual platforms part of the upgrade strategy.
Building on a partnership of over 25 years, the new agreement will see Thales provide the Central American Cooperation for Air Navigation Services with a comprehensive suite of solutions, designed to supports its mission to provide high-quality aeronautical information and services to Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
Thales adds that the modernisation of its TopSky – AHMS system will enable COCESNA to increase its communication capacity, with the upgrade including the implementation of a scalable, easy-to-maintain virtual platform. This will enable to COCESNA members to become some of the first countries in Central and South America to process the latest International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standard for meteorological data.
Deployment of new equipment (including instrument landing system and distance measuring equipment technology) will also help COESCNA achieve up to 50% reduction in total ownership costs and CO2 emissions reduction over the systems’ lifecycle.
