Istanbul has been named the ‘Most Connected Airport’ in 2024, with 309 destinations served from the Turkish hub – driven mostly by Turkish Airlines which serves more countries than any other airline.

Data from Cirium put Frankfurt Airport in second position, with 296 destinations served in the first half of the year, followed by Paris Charles de Gaulle with 282 destinations.

No UK airport made the top 10, with Heathrow Airport coming in 12th position, with 221 destinations served, and Gatwick following in 14th with 218 destinations (joint with Madrid).

In H1 2023, Heathrow secured 8th position, meaning it has fallen out of the top 10 – it is however up on its pre-pandemic (H1 2019) position of 18th.

Of this year’s top 20, half (10) were European airports, four were in both China and the US, and two in the Middle East.

The data is based on the number of unique non-stop destinations served from each airport in H1 2024.
