Azorra buys JetBlue’s Embrer E190s as carrier pivots to Airbus A220s

JetBlue is preparing to operate its final scheduled E190 flight in September.

US-based lessor Azorra has finalised a sale and purchase agreement with JetBlue for a package of 13 Embraer E190 aircraft, as the carrier pivots to the Airbus A220 for its regional fleet.

The deal also includes 36 General Electric CF34-10E6 engines.

Azorra adds JetBlue’s aircraft to its E-jet fleet

The move bolsters Azorra’s portfolio of regional assets and further deepens its presence in the E-Jet segment.

The first deliveries began in July 2025 and are set to continue through to the end of the second quarter of 2026.

The transaction comes as JetBlue continues to phase out its E190 fleet in favour of the A220-300, part of a long-term fleet renewal strategy aimed at improving fuel efficiency and operating economics

The airline is preparing to operate its final scheduled E190 flight in the coming months, marking the end of nearly two decades of service with the type.

JetBlue was the launch customer for the E190 in North America. The carrier placed an order for 100 E190 aircraft with options for another 100 in 2003, and the first delivery was in 2005.

However, it has been gradually divesting the aircraft as it pivots towards an all-Airbus fleet, with the A220 taking on an increasingly central role in its short-haul network.

In a recent schedule update, JetBlue revised its planned last E190 scheduled flight to operate on 9 September, from Boston to New York JFK round-trip.

John Evans, CEO of Azorra, said: “We’re excited to once again partner with JetBlue on this transaction, which reinforces our commitment to the Embraer E-Jet family and GE’s CF34-10 engines.

“It underscores our confidence in the performance, reliability, long-term value, and continued demand for these assets, while advancing our mission to deliver innovative, value-driven powerplant solutions to customers worldwide.”

JetBlue modernises its regional jet portfolio

For JetBlue, the deal aligns with the airline’s ongoing strategy to streamline and modernise its fleet.

Dmitry Kopylov, VP Strategic Sourcing & Fleet at JetBlue, says: “We’re pleased to partner with Azorra as we continue our fleet modernisation efforts.

“This agreement enables us to efficiently monetise a portion of our E190 assets. Azorra has a strong track record in the Embraer space, and we’re glad these aircraft and engines will continue to serve operators around the world.”

Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with an additional office in Dublin, Azorra manages a fleet of 143 aircraft and engines, with a total portfolio of 240 assets, including firm orders for Airbus A220-300s and Embraer E2 aircraft.
