Leaders and experts from across the aerospace ecosystem will convene for a half-day workshop dedicated to sustainable technologies and the industry’s pursuit of decarbonisation next month.

Hosted by SAE International, the free Enabling Sustainability event will take place on Wednesday 24 July at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024.

The workshop occurs as governments globally have established ambitious climate goals for the aviation sector.

This includes the EU’s Fit for 55 plan to cut emissions by 55% by 2030, the US’s target of 100% sustainable aviation fuel by 2050 and the UN’s aviation agency ICAO setting a long-term aspiration for zero emissions by 2050.

To align with these environmental commitments, aerospace companies are accelerating development of innovative sustainable technologies like electrified propulsion, hydrogen power, sustainable aviation fuels and lightweight materials.

SAE has taken a leadership role in enabling this progress through new steering groups, technical committees, standards and recommended practices.

The Enabling Sustainability workshop will spotlight the latest advancements across these areas of sustainable aviation technology.

Keynote presentations will feature senior executives from major aerospace manufacturers GKN and Eaton.

A panel discussion will then dive deeper into topics like research, certification, technology deployment and more.

Panellists will include representatives from cutting-edge companies like ZeroAvia, Protium, HyArk, regulatory bodies like the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and others.

The event aims to foster critical dialogue and collaboration around the complex challenges of decarbonising aviation.

As an organising leader, SAE International sees an imperative need to expedite development, standardisation and adoption of these environmentally-friendly technologies for future air travel.

Scheduled for just a half-day from 8:45am-10:45am local time, the workshop is free and open for registration to attendees across the aerospace industry.

It will take place in the Innovate Room 1 of Hall 1 at the Farnborough venue, a hub for the latest aviation innovations.
