Airports, airlines and individuals were recognised for their contributions to global air connectivity at the Routes World Awards 2025, held in Hong Kong on 25 September.

Winners were celebrated across passenger traffic categories, airline performance and individual achievement.

The Overall Winner title went to Athens International Airport, which also topped the Over 20 Million Passengers airport category.

The airport continues to build on its rapid growth, handling nearly 32 million travellers in 2024 and sustaining momentum in 2025 with further expansion.

In the Under 5 Million Passengers category, Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Canada was recognised for its aggressive international growth, adding new European routes and boosting transatlantic capacity by 25% this year.

Germany’s Stuttgart Airport took the 5–10 Million Passengers award. The airport has attracted more than 30 new airlines and 30 destinations in recent years.

Passenger volumes are forecast to climb to nearly 18 million in 2025.

The Airline of the Year award went to easyJet, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The carrier now operates more than 1,100 routes across 35 countries and recently expanded to new destinations, including Cape Verde, Tbilisi and Tromso.

The Rising Star Award was presented to Daria Sergeeva, Airport Development Manager at Wizz Air. Sergeeva, who manages a portfolio of over 30 airports, was recognised for her leadership and potential in the early stages of her career.

Roberto de Oliveira Luiz, Head of Business Aviation at Corporación América Airports, received the Individual Leadership Award in recognition of his four decades of service to the sector and his role in advancing air connectivity across the group’s 53 airports.

The Destination Award was presented to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) in partnership with Harry Reid International Airport, acknowledging record inbound capacity and a growing international market.

Judging was carried out by airline panels for the airport and destination awards, while the airline, rising star and individual categories were evaluated by an editorial panel.

The awards ceremony comes in the 30th year for Routes World, an annual forum bringing together decision-makers from airlines, airports and tourism bodies to shape the future of global route development.
