The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded Serco a £31m two year extension to the original three-year Brize Support Contract (BSC). This contract was awarded in December 2021. It covered the provision of specialist support services at Brize Norton, the RAF’s air transport and refuelling base. Serco has been working alongside the Royal Air Force at ‘Brize’ for many years. Doug Umbers, Managing Director of Serco’s UK defence business, pointed out that: “Our team has been at Brize for over 25 years. It has an intimate understanding of the critical role that the base plays for the UK Armed Forces, and will continue to make a positive impact on its future.”
Under the terms of the Brize Support Contract Serco delivered multi-activity logistics, engineering and airfield services, working closely with the RAF in a Whole Force Approach. The contract employs more than 380 people and allows the release of serving RAF personnel back to front line duties. About 160 of those employed on the contract are ex-Service personnel, .
RAF Brize Norton is the RAF’s largest Station, with more than 7,000 personnel based on site. The base is home to the RAF’s Strategic and Tactical Air Transport (AT) and Air-to-Air Refuelling (AAR) fleets. RAF Brize Norton’s role is to provide rapid global mobility in support of UK overseas operations using its mixed fleet of Airbus A400M Atlas, and Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. Brize also provides AAR (air-to-air refuelling) support for fast-jet aircraft, using the Air Tanker fleet of Airbus A330 MRTT Voyager aircraft.
