Oman has expanded its international connectivity with national carrier Oman Air officially joining the oneworld alliance.

The Sultanate’s flag carrier is the 15th member airline, strengthening the alliance’s footprint across the Gulf region and South Asia.

The Muscat-based carrier officially joins the group from 1 July, giving oneworld passengers access to a wider range of Middle Eastern destinations.\

“Oman Air is honoured to be joining the oneworld alliance, whose members and global footprint represent the best of what international travellers want to experience,” said Con Korfiatis, CEO of Oman Air.

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome oneworld customers to the Sultanate of Oman to experience our unique culture, stunning mountain excursions, beautiful beaches, and, above all, the warm hospitality of the Omani people.”

Oman Air benefits from oneworld alliance

From next month, oneworld customers will be able to access Oman Air’s global network, including a new non-stop service between Muscat and Amsterdam.

The move also allows oneworld frequent flyers to earn and redeem miles across WY-operated flights, as well as enjoy other key benefits such as priority check-in, boarding, and access to lounges.

In return, Oman Air’s own loyalty programme members will be eligible for the full suite of oneworld perks, including entry to nearly 700 premium lounges worldwide and new alliance-branded facilities recently opened at Amsterdam Schiphol and Seoul Incheon airports.

“We are proud to welcome Oman Air to the oneworld family,” said Nat Pieper, CEO of oneworld, who added that the carrier “brings valuable strategic reach and award-winning product and service to the alliance”.

“This partnership opens up exciting new connections for our customers, particularly across the Gulf and South Asia, and reinforces oneworld’s position as the premium alliance for international travellers,” she said.

Fleet renewal

The partnership comes as Oman Air evaluates its fleet renewal strategy as part of a wider modernisation effort.

The airline has been taking delivery of new 787-9s and 737 MAX aircraft, with the final arrival of the narrowbody additions due to be completed by the end of next year.

Oman Air will then look to extend its order for the MAX fleet as well as how it will continue to refresh its widebody inventory, Korfiatis said in a recent interview.
