As fast jets roared across the skies above Le Bourget on the afternoon of day one at Paris Air Show, Airbus orders continued to soar in. LOT Polish Airlines placed a firm order for 20 A220-100s and 20 A220-300s.

At a media briefing packed with official representatives from Poland, LOT executives and senior members of Airbus’ management team, including CEO Guillaume Faury, the signed agreement marked the first time Poland’s national carrier has selected Airbus aircraft.

The agreement could see a future increase to 84 A220s with Benoit de Saint-Exupery, Airbus EVP sales of the commercial aircraft business, saying: “LOT has built a remarkable legacy of endurance and excellence.”

He added the order for 40-strong A220 order will be “instrumental in LOT’s fleet modernisation and network expansion strategy with both the A220-100 and A220-300 the ideal combination for their needs.”

What will LOT use the A220 for?

The A220 will gradually replace LOT’s existing regional fleet as the flag carrying airline looks to expand its destination network and enhance the passenger experience.

“This project has been a year in the making,” commented Michal Fijot, LOT executive officer. “As we sought to expand and modernise our fleet we had two competitive offers, but Airbus won us over.”

He echoed Saint-Exupery’s messaging that the “A220 is the right aircraft for the future of LOT.” He also stressed that, “Quality is key and we believe the A220 provides the optimum experience for our passengers with a modern cabin, more space for passengers and luggage.”

Deliveries of the first 40 A220s are expected in 2027 with the rest of the 84-strong order expected in 2032.
