Hampshire’s Farnborough Airport has officially opened its £55 million Domus III hangar facility, increasing the airport’s overall hangar capacity by over 70%.

The four-bay, 175,000 square foot state-of-the-art hangar is part of a £55 million investment programme, one of the largest private inward investments into the local area for many years and “further demonstrating Farnborough Airport’s pivotal role as a major employer and economic growth engine within the region,” explains an airport spokesperson. It was completed on time and on budget just 18 months after breaking ground.

Adjacent to the airport’s two main taxiways, the new hangar has the flexibility to accommodate large aircraft including the Global 7500. It is also suitable for upcoming types such as the Dassault Falcon 10X.

“Domus III represents a monumental leap forward in aviation hangar technology, setting new standards in the industry with a state-of-the-art facility that not only cements Farnborough Airport’s position as London and the South East’s premier hub for air connectivity, but also reflects our commitment to drive environmental performance across every part of our business,” commented Simon Geere, CEO of Farnborough Airport.

Sustainability features incorporated into the heart of the hangar’s design include a fully intelligent lighting system, translucent automated doors, a 280km-long rainwater harvesting system, eco-friendly heating systems and a fully integrated building control and energy monitoring solution.
