Two startup carriers Avooma Airlines and beregional are to merge in a “major step towards enhancing regional connectivity across the UK,” with the combined company to operate under the Avooma Airlines brand.

Citing the extremely competitive nature of the regional aviation market segment, “past history has shown that a crowded market does not perform well, so it simply doesn’t make sense for both Avooma and beregional to attempt to establish themselves separately and then try competing against each other,” explained Avooma’s chief vision officer, John Davies.

Although a spokesperson for beregional expressed sadness in saying goodbye to its purple branding so soon (with the venture only formed in April), they were “excited to be saying hello to the blue, green and yellow of Avooma Airlines going forwards”; adding that the two companies share the same focus on efficiency, innovation and sustianabiity.

Following a “period of constructive dialogue between both companies,” the new entity will operate from Avooma’s existing Blackpool headquarters as it works to further its mission of “serving communities with accessible, year-round air service”.

Avooma Airlines was originally formed in June 2020 as Lakeland Airways.
