ToffeeX software will cut design cycle ‘to weeks’
A design software company is promising it can cut the design cycle from ‘years to weeks’ with its offering.
ToffeeX CEO Marco Pietropaoli said the world of engineering design is going through big changes, particularly with the recent shift to using digital tools as opposed to pencil and paper.
He added this new technology has the potential of changing the world of aviation design by speeding up the entire design process, resulting in drastic cuts to the length of time spent on research and development hugely.
In addition, he said by bringing machine learning, which is purely focused on the physics, the technology is able to make the connections and design breakthroughs that escape human thinking.
Pietropaoli said: “Expecting a go to market in a decade makes the application not relevant any more [by the time of release]; shrinking this to months makes a completely different scenario.
“We are not only shrinking the time but sometimes it’s really enabling something [to be created] that if only driven by human intuition and experience wouldn’t be possible.”
He argued with so many complex problems facing humanity today, the need for the software was more urgent than ever, adding: “There is a need for new design and more sophisticated design for the big challenges we are facing, including net-zero decarbonisation, hydrogen application and electrification for cars.”
Pietropaoli said the world of aviation offers a unique opportunity as people are not only rethinking the entire design of aircraft but also dealing with rapidly evolving drone technology.
He added: “Aviation is one of the markets which is more active in innovation for obvious reasons.
“We’re not only talking about aircraft but also about drones. It’s a mix of improving conduction, improving the cooling system and improving the thermal management of batteries.
“In this scenario ToffeeX has a very large application.”
Toffee X is on the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium stand in Hall 1 at Farnborough International Airshow on Monday 22 July only.
