ITP Aero confident about increasing gender diversity within industry
Speaking at Farnborough International Airshow, Debbie Wilson, head of quality at ITP Aero, highlighted the changes she has seen within the industry over the last two decades; highlighting the importance of encouraging more gender diversity and nurturing future talent.
With over 5,000 employees, ITP Aero “design, manufacture, assemble, test and repair many different parts of the aircraft engine,” embodying the role of a first-tier supplier to many OEMs. However, alongside the company’s ongoing decarbonisation incentives – such as participating in hydrogen research initiatives such as project RACHEL and project HEAVEN – she highlights that sustainability is also a key element in ITP Aero’s workforce.
Stressing the importance of having role models within the industry, encouraging future generations and welcoming a diverse workforce across every aspect of the business, Wilson draws on her own perceptions over the last two decades, highlighting how she’s “seen the industry change”.
Moving away from a very “male dominated industry,” women are now being welcomed in a wide variety of roles and departments within the company, with ITP Aero’s CEO and head of manufacturing both roles now embodied by women. Looking to the future, the company is also continuing to mentor young people from a diverse range of backgrounds, including at the school and college level.
