When it comes to improving the passenger experience for premium airline customers, seating is a good place to start. FINN talks to Lars Rinne, Butterfly, about a genuinely transformative seating solution.

The Butterfly flexible seating solution converts from two regional business-class recliners into a business-class flat-bed suite for a single-aisle or wide-body aircraft.

The innovative concept has won the Crystal Cabin Award and IATA’s Passenger Innovation Award, and was selected into the first cohort of Airbus’ Bizlab accelerator.

It is simple to convert the seat, says Butterfly’s Lars Rinne.

“It literally takes one hand and ten seconds to convert between the daily sitting position and the full flatbed for the night [and back].”

Rinne says Butterfly is seeing the greatest interest in the product from smaller and medium-sized airlines at the moment.

He said: “They are looking for a solution that is very simple and non-motorised with low maintenance costs and lower acquisition costs.”

Rinne said the seat could be onboard aircraft within 18 months.
