Supersonic startup Exosonic has partnered with the US Air Force’s presidential and Executive Airlift Directorate (PE) to develop a supersonic aircraft for the President of the USA.
CNN reported that the contract for the jet – which could replace Air Force One – was awarded after the aviation company impressed the military with its concept of a low-boom supersonic twinjet capable of flying at Mach 1.8. The new aircraft can fly over land at nearly twice the speed of sound and uses boom-softening technology.
Exosonic hopes to certify the supersonic aircraft by 2029, with the jet set to be operational in 2030. The 31-seater concept of the company’s 70-seater passenger aircraft has a range of 5,000 nautical miles.
Luxury suites and business class cabin
The aircraft has two luxury suites with the first including three-passenger meeting rooms equipped with secure video teleconferencing allowing VIPs on board to work, go online or talk to the press directly.
The seats house video monitor within them while sideboards can be pulled in place for food or other equipment. The second suite can hold eight passengers with lie-flat seats and adjustable table heights. The main cabin includes 20 business-class seats as well as two galleys, two washrooms and ample storage space. The seats are designed to hold personal electronic devices.
Stephanie Chahan, the principal aircraft interior designer at Exosonic, saidthe cabin is inspired by the mission of the US Executive Branch and the peregrine falcon.
