TransNusa, an Indonesian airline, has inaugurated a new direct flight route connecting Manado in North Sulawesi with Guangzhou in southern China, using Comac’s ARJ21 aircraft.

The route, which launched on October 29, marks a significant milestone as it is the first time an overseas airline has operated international flights to and from China using a Chinese-made aircraft.

This new service is also the longest commercial route flown by the ARJ21.

The inaugural flight took off from Manado’s Sam Ratulangi International Airport at 5:05 a.m. Beijing time and arrived in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at 9:00 a.m. Initially, TransNusa plans to operate the route three times per week, with plans to expand to daily flights by the end of November.

A ceremony celebrating the launch was held at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

Yu Shihai, CFO of Comac, said TransNusa had made “important contributions to accumulating experience in overseas operation of ARJ21 aircraft and exploring a successful business mode of ARJ21 aircraft”.

He added: “The inaugural flight of ARJ21 aircraft in its longest commercial route was another important achievement of the cooperation between both sides.

“Looking forward to the future, Comac would insist on the principle of being customer centred, continue to deepen cooperation with partners from all walks of life, give full play to their respective advantages, and jointly promote high-quality development of aviation industry.”
