War is over? Qatar Airways flights to Iraq are back on the schedule

Qatar Airways is resuming flights to Iraq and the wider Levant, with Baghdad first to reconnect as regional airspace closures begin to lift.

Air service in the Levant is starting to normalise as Qatar Airways flights to Iraq resume today.

Baghdad will be the first to get its Doha connection restored, with flights gradually resuming to destinations in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon to follow.

The airline suspended flights to several Levantine destinations in mid-June, after an Iranian missile strike targeted the US base at Al Udeid in Qatar. The resulting security concerns led to temporary airspace closures across parts of the region.

With the lifting of airspace restrictions, flights are back on the schedule and connectivity is set to be restored in the coming days.

1 July 2025 sees services restart to Erbil (EBL) and by 2 July, connections to both Sulaymaniyah (ISU) and Najaf (NJF) are back. Basra (BSR) follows on 3 July.

Erbil is served with 10 weekly flights, but will begin with a daily flight departing Doha at 18:35 for a 21:00 arrival, returning at 22:00. From 9 July, three additional weekly flights will be added, departing Doha at 00:50 and Erbil at 04:20.

Sulaymaniyah goes back to its full schedule of seven weekly flights from 2 July:

  • Sulaymaniyah (ISU) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR437: Departure 04:25, Arrival 06:40

Qatar returns to Syria, Lebanon and Jordan

Qatar will not only resume its usual daily service to Damascus in Syria, but will add more flights from the middle of July to move to double daily service.

From 6 July, the airline will operate:

  • Doha (DOH) to Damascus (DAM) – Flight QR410: Departure 09:05, Arrival 12:00
  • Damascus (DAM) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR411: Departure 14:00, Arrival 16:50

Then, from 15 July, it will add a second daily service:

  • Damascus (DAM) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR413: Departure 18:15, Arrival 21:05

While the airline never stopped flying to Lebanon or Jordan, it had reduced services in the wake of regional instability. Now, it is committed to reinstating its full schedule to both destinations, and to add more flights with immediate effect.

To Beirut’s Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport, Qatar will resume its full regular schedule as well as adding the following flight as a daily service, taking its frequencies on the route to 21 flights per week.

  • Beirut (BEY) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR419: Departure 01:40, Arrival 04:45

In Jordan, Queen Alia International Airport in Amman will also see full schedule restoration, plus an additional daily flight to take it to 21 a week.

  • Doha (DOH) to Amman (AMM) – Flight QR404: Departure 20:35, Arrival 23:30
  • Amman (AMM) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR405: Departure 02:20, Arrival 05:05

With Iraq’s airspace now open to overflights and commercial services, and regional tensions showing signs of easing, Qatar Airways is among the first to restore operations. Expect other carriers to follow in the coming weeks as connectivity in the Levant rebounds.
