QantasLink adds to Perth connections

June 3, 2025

QantasLink will launch two new direct routes from Perth later this year, providing improved access for both leisure travellers and the natural resource sector.
Flights to Newcastle and Hobart are scheduled to begin in September.
The Newcastle route will mark the first non-stop service between the two cities, operated three times weekly.
QantasLink says the new connection will add more than 45,000 seats per year and is expected to benefit FIFO (fly-in fly-out) workers and mining industry passengers.
At the same time, the airline will reinstate direct flights between Perth and Hobart, also operating three times per week for most of the year. This will add around 32,000 seats annually, enhancing connectivity between Tasmania and Western Australia after the route was paused in 2023.
Flights on both routes will be operated by QantasLink’s Airbus A319 aircraft, configured with 150 all-economy seats.
These aircraft are commonly used by the airline for intra-WA services, particularly those catering to the mining and energy sectors.
QantasLink said the services will allow for seamless connections through Perth to a number of its international destinations, including London, Paris, and seasonal flights to Rome.
“We’re really proud to continue our support for Western Australia’s resource and tourism sectors, with our newest QantasLink routes linking Perth to Hobart once more and Perth to Newcastle for the first time,” said Rachel Yangoyan, CEO of QantasLink. “These direct services will not only boost inbound visitors to WA but offer more opportunities for those working in the resource sectors across the country with improved options for their travel.”
Kate Holsgrove, Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer at Perth Airport, welcomed the expansion and highlighted the collaborative approach behind the new services.
“Perth Airport has worked in partnership with Qantas, Newcastle Airport, Destination NSW, Hobart Airport, Tourism Tasmania and Tourism WA to grow aviation connections into Perth, boosting tourism and trade and supporting economic development,” she said. “The introduction of new domestic services shows Qantas Group’s commitment to Western Australia and growing its network into Perth Airport, Australia’s western gateway. The new routes will provide a convenient option for both business and leisure travellers.
“It’s great news for Australia’s tourism industry as the services will promote increased visitation to Western Australia from New South Wales and Tasmania and will also provide a direct link for Western Australians wanting to discover Tasmania and northern NSW.”
