Poland has received its second Saab 340 airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft, completing the pair it ordered in July 2023 in a deal worth approximately SEK 600 million.
“We’ve got the set!” announced the Polish Armament Agency (Agencja Uzbrojenia) on social media, adding: “Acceptance, training and implementation into combat work – this is their immediate future”. The contract for two Erieye radar-equipped Saab 340 turboprops also includes provision for ground equipment as well as in-country logistics and support services.
The first aircraft was presented to the customer during a ceremony at Saab’s Linköping, Sweden headquarters in September 2023, two months after the initial agreement was signed; described by Saab as “a solution [to] provide Poland’s Armed Forces with a national asset to reinforce territorial integrity and national security”.
The two Saab 340 aircraft transferred to Poland were previously in the employ of the United Arab Emirates Air Force, which has since updated its fleet with the Saab GlobalEye platform.
