Norwegian and Boeing have reached an agreement for the carrier to purchase 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with options for another 30 aircraft, ending a legal dispute.
In May, Norwegian and Boeing announced an agreement in principle for the purchase of the aircraft.
End to legal desputes
Both parties have now announced that the closing conditions related to that agreement have been met, and the companies have filed to settle all outstanding legal disputes over MAX and Dreamliner aircraft deliveries.
“The agreement to purchase 50 brand-new and fuel-efficient aircraft constitutes a big leap forward in the strategy to solidify our market position in the Nordics,” said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.
Limited increase in current fleet
The 50 aircraft were due to be delivered between 2025 and 2028, at a schedule closely corresponding to Norwegian’s current aircraft lease expirations. Norwegian said the deal would lead to a “limited net increase of the company’s current fleet”.
The purchase agreement demonstrates Norwegian’s commitment to Boeing amid speculation it had been considering Airbus as an alternative aircraft supplier.
