Airbus has commissioned a new training centre in Toulouse, with the campus to facilitate the enrolment of around 10,000 trainee pilots, mechanics and structure specialists a year.

With the latest Airbus Global Services Forecast predicting the need for an additional 2.3 million trained workers in the airline services sector over the next 20 years, the new facility in Toulouse-Blagnac will be the largest of 15 Airbus pilot training centres globally and the only one of its kind in Europe.

The new building will offer space for up to 12 full flight simulators and 12 procedure trainers, augmenting the 43 full flight simulators operated by Airbus worldwide. An existing A330 simulator will be replaced by a new A330neo unit, with one additional A350 full flight simulator to join the new facility; taking the number of simulators in Toulouse to seven. Provision for virtual reality and computer-based training will also be allocated.

Additionally, the new campus will co-locate all the Airbus training services in France into one facility, alongside teams from flight operations and NAVBLUE, Airbus’ flight operations solutions and services subsidiary.

Architectural firms Kardham and Rodrigo Ferrer will work alongside construction firm GIE-Burotheque with the design and build of the new campus, which will commence in October 2024.
