Safran Passenger Innovation (SPI) has partnered with video streaming products and advanced engineering services provider IdeaNova to unveil two connected cabin solutions that will open up opportunities for in-flight entertainment (IFE).

Enhanced IPTV with Inplay Edge Integration

The unveiling took place earlier this week at the 2025 Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) being held in Hamburg this week. The Enhanced Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) with Inplay Edge Integration allows passengers to connect seamlessly using their personal electronic device (PED) to SPI’s RAVE in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, which is combined with IdeaNova’s Inplay Edge technology. The solution supports both live TV and Video-on-Demand (VOD) content, enabling passengers to rewind live broadcasts and seamless transitioning from live broadcast to DVR content, configured to be stored in local cache.

“IPTV combines the benefits of watching live content and DVR content,” explained Juraj Siska, CEO of IdeaNova Technologies. “With its ability to seamlessly transition between live and DVR it offers passengers quick review of just played scene (e.g. goal scoring) or complete review of previous events such as games or prior broadcasted TV,” he continued. “With Inplay Edge, it provides intelligent, standard compliant caching with ability to leverage single connectivity to pull content to a local server for subsequent viewing.”

Both live and Digital Video Recorder (DVR) content is accessible from SPI’s displays. The system also features configurable interface for managing cache options such as disk space allocation, cache cleaning and per channel DVR configuration.

Inplay flow for user generated and YouTube content

Meanwhile, the second solution, Inplay flow for user generated and YouTube content, enables passengers to mirror and cast YouTube video directly to SPI seatback IFE screens, creating a more personalised and immersive experience.

According to Siska, this product will become “essential for all connected (and even disconnected) aircraft in the future.”

Ben Asmar, VP Products and Strategy at SPI added, “As the demand for high-resolution streaming, multi-device compatibility, and seamless viewing experiences continues to grow, SPI is proud to lead in redefining IFE.  By integrating advanced technologies like Inplay Edge and Inplay Flow into our innovative products, we are setting new standards in connected personalisation, delivering premium, user-focused entertainment solutions, something we call the Passenger Curated Experience.”
