Embraer’s E190F, a new passenger-to-freighter aircraft, has received full certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

This marks a significant milestone for the E-Freighter, which is designed to meet the growing demand for faster, more efficient air cargo services, particularly in regional markets.

The certification follows approval from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) in July, with European certification expected later this year.

Launched in May 2022, the E190F was developed to address the evolving needs of the e-commerce sector, which has driven demand for quicker deliveries to decentralised locations.

The aircraft made its first flight in April and was publicly showcased at the Farnborough Airshow in July.

Martyn Holmes, chief commercial officer at Embraer Commercial Aviation, said: “FAA certification is an important milestone in our passenger-to-freighter conversion programme.

“We are excited to enter this market, filling a gap that has evolved in the market to meet the growing demand globally for faster deliveries, not just to metro areas, but to all regions.

“With our E-Jet footprint across the US and worldwide, we are offering optimum cargo solutions to our customers for this connected world.”

With over 40% more volume capacity than large cargo turboprops and up to 30% lower operating costs compared to larger narrowbody aircraft, the E190F offers a compelling solution for regional freight operators.

It boasts a maximum payload of 13,500kg across its main deck and underfloor cargo areas, with a range three times that of traditional turboprop freighters.
