EL AL Israel Airlines has finalised an agreement for up to 31 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the largest agreement in the airline’s history; building on its earlier order of 3 787-9s with the American manufacturer earlier this year.

“The implementation of the long-term procurement plan, which began with the purchase of additional 787 Dreamliners earlier this year and culminates in the current deal, once again demonstrates our commitment to the Israeli public and the state,” said Dina Ben-Tal Ganancia, CEO of EL AL Israel Airlines.

The deal includes a firm order for 20 737 MAX aircraft with options for up to 11 more to replace the carrier’s ageing 737 fleet.

Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, added that Boeing “[looks] forward to delivering the 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner jets that will reshape and grow the airline in the coming decades”.

EL AL Israel Airlines is due to take delivery of a new 787-9 later this year and plans to receive two more units on lease in the coming years. Delivery of the new order of 737 MAX jets is expected to commence in 2028.
