TAP Air Portugal experienced a strong year in 2024, carrying 16.1 million passengers—a 1.6% increase from 2023. The airline saw notable growth across several key markets, with Brazil leading the way in setting new milestones.

Routes between Brazil and Europe stood out as a major success, with over two million passengers flying TAP in 2024, marking a 7.1% increase from the previous year.

The achievement also set a historical record for the airline, as it surpassed the two-million-passenger mark on Brazilian routes for the first time.

North American routes to the United States and Canada also contributed significantly to TAP’s growth. Passenger numbers climbed by 8.9% year-over-year, reaching a total of 1.59 million passengers.

Meanwhile, TAP’s African routes saw a slight dip, with a marginal decline of 0.1%, resulting in 1.1 million passengers. In domestic travel, TAP carried 983,000 passengers between Madeira and mainland Portugal, representing a 3.3% increase, while its routes to the Azores saw a modest rise of 1.3%, totaling 527,000 passengers.

Across European destinations (excluding Portugal), the airline recorded 8.8 million passengers, up by 0.9% compared to 2023.

TAP also saw gains in operational efficiency. The airline’s load factor—measuring seat occupancy—rose to 82.3%, up 1.5 percentage points from the previous year. Available seat capacity (ASK) increased by 1.6%, while revenue per seat (RPK) grew by 3.4%, underscoring TAP’s successful optimisation of its flight operations.
