Archer Aviation has become the second eVTOL manufacturer worldwide to receive Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 135 certification, allowing Archer to begin commercial operations of its Midnight aircraft.
Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein described receipt of the Part 135 Air Carrier and Operator Certificate as “another important stepping stone on the way to commencing commercial air taxi operations” and one that reflected Archer’s “unwavering dedication to safety and operational excellence”.
In 2023, United Airlines announced plans to launch Chicago’s first air taxi route (connecting O’Hare International Airport and Vertiport Chicago) with Archer’s Midnight craft. “The pace of progress and innovation that Archer has achieved over the last few years is nothing short of impressive,” commented United Airlines’ chief financial officer Mike Leskinen. “Together, we look forward to shaping the future of air transportation”.
Completion of the Part 135 certification process involved “five rigorous stages,” explains Archer, including the “submission of extensive documentation of operational manuals and procedures” as well as pilot proficiency scrutiny.
