American eVTOL developer Archer Aviation has received an award from the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority (CAEATFA) relating to its planned battery pack manufacturing line in San Jose.

The sales and use tax exclusion award (believed to be CAEATFA’s largest award to date within the advanced air mobility sector) is expected to benefit Archer by around $10 million “over the next few years” as it looks to ramp up its advanced electric powertrain facility. Archer notes it was selected “after a highly competitive application process that looked closely at the project’s impact on the environment, its ability to create jobs and stimulate economic activity, and its categorisation as a strategic emerging industry”.

Archer’s battery pack manufacturing line (announced in May 2024) is designed for high-volume production from day one, with the capacity to produce up to 15,000 units a year at full capacity.

“We are proud to receive this award from CAEATFA and represent the cutting-edge of transportation innovation that the State of California is backing,” commented Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein. Congressman Eric Swalwell added: “I applaud  Archer’s  leadership to draw more cutting-edge business to California while creating more jobs for American workers”.
