Corporación América Airports has reported a 3.8% drop in passenger traffic for August 2024 compared to the same period last year, despite signs of growth across the industry.

When excluding Natal Airport, which the major global operator of private airports no longer operates, the year-on-year decline narrows to 1.5%. This reflects an improvement over July’s figures, which showed a 4.2% drop (1.8% excluding Natal).

Domestic passenger traffic fell by 12.6%, largely due to weaker performance in Argentina, where domestic numbers dropped by 10.4%, though international traffic increased by 5.8%.

Argentina’s domestic tourism, which had previously benefited from government incentives, was hit by ongoing economic challenges, though destinations like Bariloche and Mendoza remained popular. Internationally, traffic in Argentina rose 8.3%, with Copa and Avianca expanding route frequencies.

Italy saw a 6.6% rise in overall traffic, with strong international growth, particularly at Pisa and Florence airports. Meanwhile, in Brazil, total traffic was down 8.1%, though adjusting for Natal, traffic actually increased by 4.3%. Uruguay posted a 13.4% year-on-year increase, driven by a recovery in international flights.

Ecuador experienced a slight decline of 0.8%, while Armenia saw a modest 2.1% decrease, continuing trends from the previous month.
