Airbus Helicopters’ order book for the H140 is starting to bulge!

March 12, 2025

On the morning of 11 March, 2025, we asked whether there was a new Airbus helicopter model, waiting in the wings? Airbus answered that afternoon, by formally unveiling its new H140 at the Verticon show in Dallas. Later that day, we were able to report on the first customers, with ADAC Luftrettung and ÖAMTC Flugrettung each signing an agreement for the purchase of five H140 helicopters, and Global Medical Response signing for ten more H140s (plus five options).
But there was more to come for Airbus that Tuesday.
STAT MedEvac, an air medical operator based in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, and an early adopter of the EC135, signed an agreement for two H140 helicopters, with an option for one additional helicopter.
STAT MedEvac has been an Airbus customer for 40 years, having flown Airbus helicopters since commencing operations in 1985. The Pennsylvania-based critical care transport provider is the clinical arm for the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania, and is also the largest single branded, non-profit medical transport system in the Eastern United States.
Jim Houser, the CEO of STAT MedEvac said that: “STAT MedEvac is proud to partner with Airbus on this exciting next chapter. We are constantly focused on how to better deliver life-changing medicine. Like the launch of the EC135, this project is an opportunity for STAT MedEvac to be at the forefront of our industry and to find new and improved ways to positively impact the patients and communities we serve. We are proud to be an organization that embraces new challenges aimed at enhancing the way we serve our patients and communities.”
STAT MedEvac was soon joined by Air Methods, the leading air medical provider in the US, who ordered ten H125s, 11 H135s and an unspecified number of H140 helicopters to support air medical missions across the country. As the largest civil operator of Airbus helicopters worldwide, Air Methods operates a vast fleet of Airbus models, including the H125, H130, H135 and H145.
Air Methods CEO, Rob Hamilton said that: “We are excited to initiate our fleet expansion efforts with Airbus helicopters. This Global Fleet Agreement not only enhances our ability to support our customers with cutting-edge aircraft but also strategically positions Air Methods for sustained growth and innovation in the decade ahead.”
Finally, Metro Aviation, an air medical operator based in Shreveport, Louisiana, ordered 12 H140 helicopters, with options for 24 additional helicopters.
Bart Reijnen, the President of Airbus Helicopters in the US and Head of the North America Region greeted the order saying that: “Our longstanding partners at Metro Aviation have built a reputation for delivering world-class services for customers and we are proud they will be partnering with us once again in the launch of the H140 helicopter. We are certain these new Airbus helicopters will enhance their operational capabilities, allowing them to better serve communities across the country.”
