Farnborough Airshow 2026 launches finance summit with Barclays partnership

Farnborough International Airshow is expanding beyond its traditional showcase role, introducing a dedicated finance summit and partnering with Barclays to connect investors with aerospace, defence and space innovation at scale.

The Farnborough International Airshow is moving deeper into the financial architecture of the aerospace and defence sectors, launching its first dedicated finance summit for its 2026 edition.

The new Aerospace Global Forum: Finance Summit will debut alongside the show, as part of a broader strategic shift that reflects the growing importance of capital, not just technology, in shaping the future of the industry.

The initiative is being supported through a new partnership with Barclays, which has been announced as a strategic partner for the 2026 event.

Farnborough Airshow expands with new aerospace finance focus

Traditionally known for aircraft orders, flying displays and programme announcements, Farnborough is increasingly positioning itself as a platform for the wider aerospace ecosystem, including finance, supply chains and emerging technologies.

The introduction of a dedicated finance summit underscores a wider industry reality: that access to capital is becoming a defining constraint on growth across aerospace, defence and space.

“The launch of the Aerospace Global Forum: Finance Summit marks an important evolution for Farnborough International Airshow,” said Gareth Rogers, CEO of Farnborough International.

“As the aerospace, defence and space sectors continue to transform, access to capital and strategic investment has never been more critical to driving innovation, resilience and sustainable growth.”

The summit will bring together financial institutions, sovereign wealth funds, banks and institutional investors with aerospace leaders, with a focus on unlocking funding for research and development, production scaling and supply chain resilience.

The finance summit will be hosted by Baroness Patience Wheatcroft, who will also moderate its opening panel.

Her session, titled “Resilient Horizons: Strengthening Global Supply Chains and Financing the Future of Aerospace,” will bring together policymakers, industry executives and financial leaders to examine how capital can support long-term sector resilience and sustainability.

Barclays targets defence and dual-use aerospace market through Farnborough partnership

Through its partnership, Barclays will use the airshow to strengthen its position within the aerospace and defence sector, particularly in supporting companies navigating the intersection between commercial innovation and defence applications.

The bank is already working with government and industry bodies to improve alignment between public and private funding, particularly as defence spending rises and demand grows for dual-use technologies.

“Farnborough International Airshow brings together the global aerospace and defence ecosystem at a time when access to capital and coordination across the sector have never been more important,” said Matt Hammerstein, CEO of Barclays UK Corporate Bank.

“Working closely with government and UK defence innovation bodies, we are focused on improving alignment between public and private capital and helping businesses engage with defence customers at the right stage of growth.”

Barclays also highlighted its role in supporting SMEs and start-ups, particularly those pivoting into defence or operating in dual-use markets, as well as its engagement with policy development ahead of the UK’s forthcoming Defence Finance and Investment Strategy.

Defence spending growth drives aerospace investment demand

The timing of the announcement reflects a broader shift in the global aerospace and defence landscape, where rising geopolitical tensions and increased defence budgets are driving demand for capital at all levels of the supply chain.

According to Barclays’ Business Prosperity Index research, 74% of UK business leaders support the Government’s plan to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP by 2035. More than half expect this to have a positive impact on their business, while 40% anticipate benefits for SMEs and 56% for regional economies.

This growing flow of public funding is expected to require parallel private investment, particularly to scale production, accelerate innovation and strengthen supply chain resilience.

Farnborough Airshow 2026 expands beyond exhibition to full aerospace business ecosystem

The 2026 edition of the Farnborough International Airshow, scheduled for 20–24 July, reflects a deliberate shift towards a broader, more integrated industry platform.

In recent years, organisers have focused on expanding the event beyond its traditional role as a showcase for aircraft and programme announcements, bringing in adjacent sectors including artificial intelligence, cyber, supply chain and now finance.

That evolution is being driven by a more curated approach to the event, aligning its content and partnerships more closely with the needs of industry stakeholders, from primes and governments to SMEs and investors.

The introduction of a dedicated finance summit builds on that strategy, positioning Farnborough not just as a place to display innovation, but as a marketplace where the capital, partnerships and policy frameworks required to deliver it come together.

As aerospace enters a phase where scaling production, funding new technologies and strengthening supply chains are becoming as critical as engineering breakthroughs, Farnborough’s expanding remit reflects a wider shift in how the industry does business.
