Korean Air has repurposed its retired mechanic uniforms into 2,000 tool pouches for its maintenance teams, embracing sustainability in aviation operations.

With the introduction of eco-friendly uniforms earlier this year, the airline partnered with upcycling specialist Nukak to transform 700 decommissioned winter jackets into durable pouches.

Designed to hold essential tools, these belt-mounted kits will enhance on-the-job efficiency.

This initiative builds on Korean Air’s broader upcycling efforts, which include crafting travel accessories and operational items from retired materials, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.

Upcycling is becoming a notable trend in the aviation industry as companies repurpose materials to reduce waste and support sustainability.

Finnair has turned old seat covers into fashion accessories, such as bags and aprons. Aircraft fuselage materials have also been used to create unique items like luggage tags and collectible goods.
