Virgin Australia has selected the Embraer E190-E2 as part of its Virgin Australia Regional fleet renewal programme. On 13 August 2024, the company announced that it had placed a firm order for eight aircraft during a ceremony in Perth, where the aircraft are expected to be based, replacing the last three Fokker 100s in the fleet, of 14 originally delivered since 2013.
Delivery of the first of the E190-E2 aircraft is scheduled for the second half of next year, and the airline hopes to begin commercial flights with the type in October 2025. The Embraers will operate alongside seven Airbus A320s also operated by Virgin Australia Regional.
