Turkish Airlines and Icelandair are expanding their existing codeshare partnership, which was first signed in 2023.

The new arrangement will see Icelandair introduce direct flights between Reykjavik and Istanbul, starting September 5, 2025, that operate twice weekly during the winter season.

Turkish Airlines will apply its code on Icelandair’s operations.

In return, Icelandair will place its code on select Turkish Airlines flights beyond Istanbul, covering destinations across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Commenting on the expansion of the partnership, Turkish Airlines’ CEO Bilal Ekşi said: “This cooperation goes beyond a commercial partnership. It represents a strategic alignment between two trusted carriers.

“By launching direct flights between Reykjavik and Istanbul and integrating our networks, we are opening the door to new traffic flows and connectivity options between Iceland, Türkiye and beyond.”

Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair CEO, added: “Building on the partnership with Turkish Airlines will offer travellers even greater connectivity and seamless travel options across our combined networks.

“The expansion of our codeshare partnership to multiple destinations in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, reflects our shared commitment to service excellence, building a stronger global network and unlocking new opportunities for growth.”

Icelandair boosts codeshare with Southwest Airlines too

Following its agreement with Southwest Airlines in January, Icelandair has added more connecting services to its agreement.

From July 14th, passengers will be able to connect from Europe to Orlando, Pittsburgh and Raleigh-Durham. These new connections complement the existing codeshare destinations of Baltimore, Nashville and Denver.

Turkish Airlines expands agreement with TAP Portugal

Alongside Icelandair’s expanded network, Turkish has endeavoured to add to its options too.

TAP Portugal and Turkish Airlines already have a Star Alliance codeshare, but this agreement will be expanded to include Dalaman and Bodrum, both popular leisure destinations in the Turkish Airlines network.

“Because of our network structure, we need to find intelligent ways to connect us to the east. Cooperating with great partners is our way forward to do that.” Commented Luís Rodrigues, CEO of TAP Air Portugal.

Turksih Airlines is the airline that flies to more destinations than any other carrier.
