Toho Air Service, Mitsui Bussan Aerospace, and Leonardo have signed a deal for the delivery of an additional AW139 helicopter to support Tokyo-Izu Island shuttle services.

The new aircraft is scheduled for delivery in 2025.

Toho Air, based in Tokyo, operates commuter helicopter services across the six major Izu islands.

The new AW139 helicopter will enhance Toho Air’s operations, offering improved navigation, increased cabin space, greater comfort, higher safety standards, and a more sustainable approach to maintenance, the companies said.

The contract signing comes as Leonardo and Mitsui Bussan Aerospace celebrate 20 years of collaboration in Japan’s helicopter market.

With over 1,400 AW139 helicopters ordered, more than 1,200 already in service, and over 4 million flight hours logged, the model has proven its versatility.

In Japan, the AW139 is used for a wide range of missions, including passenger transport, law enforcement, search and rescue, firefighting, disaster relief, and medevac operations.
