On 9 February 2025, Thales announced that it was: “Thrilled to share the successful delivery to helicopter operator and airline Atlantic Airways of the Thales AW139 Level D Full Flight Simulator and hoist trainer. With its qualification, the simulator is ready for training at the Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy (Faroe Islands).”
Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy had earlier announced the official certification of its state-of-the-art AW139 full-flight simulator, which it said was: “now fully operational and ready to welcome customers for advanced training from early 2025.” The Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy is now inviting operators, crews, and organizations from around the globe to book training slots at its facility.
The Danish Transport Authority (Trafikstyrelsen) issued the Qualification Certificate (No. DK-1110) confirming that the AW139 simulator meets the highest standards of quality and safety.
Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy was also approved as an FSTD (Flight Simulation Training Device) operator, further solidifying its position as an upcoming leader in aviation training in the region.
Jóhanna á Bergi, CEO said that: “This is a significant milestone for Atlantic Airways and our Aviation Academy.” Hans Erik Jakobsen, Head of Training added that: “We are thrilled to finally offer our customers a cutting-edge training experience in our brand-new simulator, further enhancing their operational skills in AW139 helicopter operations.”
The new Thales simulator uses the latest technology to deliver a highly realistic training environment, and will supports various Type Ratings and search-and-rescue (SAR) scenarios, including hoist operations, offshore procedures, and challenging weather conditions, ensuring that pilots are thoroughly prepared for real-world challenges.
A custom-made hoist trainer is capable of working directly with the crew in the AW139 simulator.
The Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy is committed to providing high-quality instruction, supported by certified instructors and tailored training programs to meet specific operational needs.
