SITA has unveiled a new satellite-based connectivity solution to keep airport operations running smoothly no matter where they are located and even during blackouts and extreme weather events.

SITA has unveiled a new satellite-based connectivity solution to keep airport operations running smoothly no matter where they are located and even during blackouts and extreme weather events.

SITA Managed Satellites is now available in more than 130 countries where it delivers secure, high-speed, low-latency communication using low earth orbit (LEO) satellites.

Recent events such as earthquakes and power outages have demonstrated how vulnerable tradition networks can be,  leaving airports struggling with connectivity and impacting operations. SITA’s satellite system provides primary, secondary and emergency connectivity options, ensuring continuous operations when fibre and terrestrial networks fail or are under pressure.

“The quality and availability of the latest satellite technology means that it’s becoming a vital component within high availability networks,” said Martin Smillie, SITA SVP, communications and data.

“Airports in particular need new ways to ensure they can maintain critical operations in whatever circumstances they face – even when a diverse incident strikes,” he continued.

In addition to deploying connectivity wherever it is needed even for airports in remote regions where infrastructure is limited, the Managed Satellite service also unlocks temporary service for new route operations, seasonal operations or rapid emergency deployments
