Boeing is to open a new engineering facility within Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida; initially engaging around 200 engineers to work on military aircraft programmes and advanced technology capabilities.

Located within the university’s Cici & Hyatt Brown Centre for Aerospace Technology, work is expected to span Boeing’s defence and government services portfolios with a focus on engineering design, research, development and prototyping capabilities. Steve Nordlund, Boeing Air Dominance vice president and general manager, explained the expansion will “accelerate innovation” across combat aircraft programmes.

“We expect this location to be attractive to not only Embry-Riddle graduates, but also to established aerospace engineers from across Florida and around the nation,” he continued. Boeing intends to start hiring this year and forecasts “nearly doubling” the initial 200 jobs over the next few years.

The Centre for Aerospace Technology also comprises part of Embry-Riddle’s Research park, a 65,000 square foot facility under construction since 2022 and which is expected to be completed later this year. Here, students are paired up to collaborate with established companies across aviation, aerospace, cybersecurity, commercial space and other STEM-related areas.
